The challenge
Gangways are very dynamic systems, exposed to highly fluctuating loads and movements in seawater environment, which can lead to significant wear and thermal loads. This leads to long-term operational challenges.
Due to Ampelmann’s design philosophy of keeping their systems compact and lightweight, there is limited space for durable bearing solutions.
At the same time this lightweight design also introduces structural flexibilty. This flexibility can cause misalignments, which means that the bearing solution must be exceptionally adaptable to varying angles and loads.
The solution
In our collaboration with Ampelmann, we employed advanced heat and wear calculations tailored for different gangway types and their respective heating cycles. Our engineers meticulously analyzed thermal results to ensure optimal performance under varying conditions. Resultating in a specific material selection and custom design, in which the strenght of the different D-glide® types FC, F and FT can excel. Our solution not only enhances the durability and efficiency of Ampelmann’s gangways but also demonstrates our commitment to delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions.
